Let's Go Bike Riding!

By NaToya Goldman and Sara Kish August 5, 2019

Oh, the joy of your feet moving fast and peddles turning, as you experience the freedom of driving one of your first vehicles... your bicycle!

Many children make lifelong memories through adventures on their bikes! It's a time to get moving and enjoy time with family and friends through outdoor exploration.

The benefits of learning to ride a bicycle include:

• Your child is exercising without even knowing it.

• It helps improve balance, strength and coordination while developing a life-long skill.

• It is a great outdoor activity away from the screen.

Tips:

• Make sure the bicycle is the right size and the helmet fits.

• When practicing, pick a flat surface and a time when your child is motivated and willing to try something new, knowing they will not master riding the first time. Choose open tennis or basketball courts before going on sidewalks and trails.

• Plan to practice a few days in a row to build momentum and positive outcomes.  End each teaching session acknowledging a skill that your child was able to master.
