For years, I have not been able to figure out why finding a good place to take him was such a difficult goal, and truthfully, I had all but given up. Many times, I have resorted to trying to fix" his bad haircuts myself. That usually does not end well either.
When Pigtails & Crewcuts opened in Rockville Town Square and signed up to be a Mac Kid Rockville site sponsor, I was both excited and nervous. Excited at the idea of having a great place to bring my son that looked clean and fun, but also had experienced stylists. I went for their open house and thought it was a great set-up. I loved that I could also get my haircut there and that the prices were reasonable for this area at about $20 per cut. But, I also knew this meant eventually I would have to try them out and really hope for the best.
When I was off work last week, I made an appointment and brought my son in. I explained what his hair does that makes it so tricky, and how I really like certain things done a certain way (no hair hanging over his ears, long in front, etc.) And our stylist Phiphi LISTENED! She started conservatively, making sure that I was ok with the new length and then asking if I wanted it even shorter. She EXPLAINED what she was doing and why. She let me know the best ways to style it, and again, kept checking as she cut to make sure everything was to my liking AND my son's liking. It really was a new experience when your input matters and the name of the game is not cut first, ask questions (or apologize) later.
The pictures above are the after shots. Here are the before photos.

This was also one of the few haircuts where after sleeping on it the first night, it looked great the next day as well! Total win and a great new find! I highly recommend Pigtails & Crewcuts for your kids and will keep you posted on how it goes when I get my hair done there in a few months.
By the way, Pigtails & Crewcuts also offers birthday parties for girls and boys, as well as Up-do's, pedicures and nail polish services. You can view all the prices and services here. I'd recommend calling to make an appointment on Fridays and weekends, but usually Pigtails & Crewcuts can take walk-ins and they are able to accommodate special needs families via appointment during non-published hours.
*Disclosure, my son's haircut was provided free of charge (though I had every intention of paying for it), in order to facilitate my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
