Homemade Mother's Day Gifts

By Merri Cohen May 1, 2012

Sure, us moms love to get jewelry, spa gift certificates, and IPODs, but there is nothing like a homemade Mother's Day gift from your child. Check out the adorable card that I received today from my youngest son, Jakey, who loves me because I feed him watermelon. I have a whole box filled with special Mother's Day gifts and cards from my kids. I will never get rid of Arielle's "handprint" flower planted in a baby food jar that she gave to me when she was 2 years old. And I love the handmade portrait of me carrying a Walmart shopping bag that Josh made me when he was in kindergarten. Here's a quick and easy handmade gift to give to Grandma:

1) Make a handprint of your child's hand using either paint or a large stamp pad. Cut and glue handprint onto a separate piece of paper.

2) Decorate paper with stickers, glitter, and artwork. Then paste the following poem next to the handprint:

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.

But every day I'm growing -
I'll be grown some day
And all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away.

So here's a little handprint
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.

3) Voila--A perfect present for Mom or Grandma!
