Fun Subscriptions Boxes Worth Checking Out!

By Lani M. October 13, 2013

Those who have been readers for a while know that I love monthly subscription boxes.  There are so many great ones available, but there are also lots of duds.  I would recommend doing a bit of research on the various options out there to find a box that meets your personality, hobbies and likes.  Whether you are a foodie, a gamer, a fashionista, or even a pet owner, there are a variety of choices on the market.

I'd like to introduce you to three boxes that I recently had the chance to review.

If you have an older child who likes video games, I'd recommend you check out Loot Crate.  Loot Crate is designed for geeks and gamers and includes awesome licensed items from Star Wars, Marvel, Capcom, Nintendo and more great brands.  Each month, you'll receive a both with 6-8 hand-picked epic products.  The boxes cost $13.37 (plus s+h) per month, and based on the box I got to review, that is a fantastic value.  They also offer 3 and 6 month subscriptions to save you a bit more if you are interested.  Loot Crate also awards one Mega Crate with a $250+ value to a random LC subscriber each month.

So, why did we love Loot Crate?  That's pretty easy.  The products are awesome!  My husband immediately grabbed for the Dead Pool-Aide Shirt from GraphicLab .  My son loved the 8-BIT Sunglasses from Loot Crate Labs and the wall tangrams, stickers and candy... and I couldn't wait to grab the BIC Tech Stylus 2 in 1 Pen.  The only thing we did not use was the Comikaze Golden Ticket from Stan Lee's Comikaze, but I'm sure for those with older kids or big Stan Lee fans, that would be super awesome too.

Every month has a different theme which they will post on the website.  The October box theme is survive and if you sign up before October 19th, that is the one you'd get.  I should also mention if you sign up for their newsletter, you will get a promo code for 10% off.

The next subscription box I want to mention comes from the fine folks at Hammock Pack.  Hammock Pack comes filled with everything you need to take a much-needed getaway without even leaving your home. Whether it’s as simple as a movie night or mementos from that exotic vacation you can’t find the time to take. It is a way to relax and let a little “me time” come to you. The subscription costs $25 per month (plus $5 s&h) and you can pick from 3 different options. Try one pack, sign up for 3 months, or enjoy a full subscription.

Like the Loot Crate, each month Hammock Pack features a different theme.  If you ordered by October 13th, you would get the October box.  After the 13th, you'll get the November box.  I was able to review the June box which was themed "Lake House."  When you open the box, you are greeted with this lovely message: " With the breeze flowing through your hair, fresh water at your feet, and the sun shining on your face, a visit to the lake house is the perfect getaway for June.  While you're relaxing on the dock or sailing around in a boat, be sure to bring a good book, snacks and products to keep your skin fresh.  After your trip to the lake, we hope you're nice and rested for next month's doorstep getaway."

The box included the New York Times bestseller Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple, Blum Naturals Organic Face Wipes (LOVE these and have bought more since trying them in this box), The Good Been roasted chickpeas, Big Tree Farms portable coconut water packs and Elemental Herbs All Good Lips lip balm in a gorgeous light pink shade.  My favorite thing about the Hammock Pack was getting to try lots of new products that I had never tried before, including several brands I had never heard of.  Plus, with constantly being on the go, the Hammock Pack really was a lovely way to take a mini-vacation without having to leave the house.

Last, but not least, I'd like to tell you about the SeasonsBox.  Each box is uniquely curated with 3-5 luxurious eco-friendly full size seasonal must-have products and starts at $34.90 including shipping.  SeasonsBox does offer a discount if you subscribe for a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription, and they also have a referral program.

The box I received to review was July's Get In Touch With Nature box.  It contained products I had never heard of but was thrilled to try like Bella Organics Dead Sea mineral mud mask, Wild Mountain raw foods snack pack, Nibnaks, Made from Earth pure aloe vera skin treatment and Pura Vida Hippie hair ties.
October's box looks like it would be amazing for tea lovers as it has a loose leaf infuser, loose leaf pumpkin vanilla & cinnamon Tea from Dryad Tea, vegan pumpkin cider lip balm by Molly Rose and Cider Spice Soap by SomervilleSoapWorks.  You must have your order in by the 20th of October to receive this month's box.  Everything in the SeasonsBox is full-sized and if you have a monthly subscription, they will e-mail you the contents of the upcoming box so you can skip it if it just isn't your cup of tea. (pun intended)

I do not think you could go wrong with any of these subscription boxes!  If you give them a try, please come back and let me know what you think.  Or, if you have another favorite subscription box, I'd love to hear about it!  Happy sampling!

*I received samples of these boxes in order to facilitate my honest review of their products.  No other compensation was received and I do not benefit in any way from anyone choosing to sign up with any of these companies.  All opinions expressed are my own.
