Make These Cute Strawberry Mice!

By Maggie Mackay, Publisher Mt. Airy, Maryland April 10, 2012

Before becoming a Mommy, I taught elementary school…so every now and then the “teacher” in me comes out.  As a teacher, I was a big fan of theme teaching….it was lots of fun and really pushed me to be creative.   So when strawberry season came around, I searched high and low for a strawberry story to share with my kids.  I found a winner in The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear by Don & Audrey Wood.   This is the story of a little mouse who LOVES strawberries.  There’s only one problem…the Big Hungry Bear LOVES strawberries too!  What’s a little mouse to do?  Well with a little help from the reader his problem is easy to solve!   An adorable, simple story & amazing illustrations, make this book a family favorite!

After reading the story with your kids, make these adorable Strawberry Mice:

What you’ll need:

Strawberries, cut in half (each half will make 1 mouse)

2 almond slivers per mouse

3 mini chocolate chips per mouse

Red shoe string licorice (the Pull & Peel Twizzlers will work too)

Assemble mice:

Sit strawberry half cut side down, so the strawberry lays flat.  Push 2 almond slivers into the top of the strawberry for ears.Add 2 mini chocolate chips for eyes, and 1 for a nose. Cut shoes string licorice to make the mouse’s tail as long or as short as you want.  Push it into the back of the strawberry. Now you have an adorable, edible friend that your kids will love!!
