So...I am back from Sedona which was amazing...however, my trip out there was anything but! My four year old trooper put up with over 15 hours of travel which was nothing short of a miracle. We took the ICC shuttle from Shady Grove metro to BWI. My husband was dropping us off before he left for work so we were already going to have over 3 hours at the airport. We get to the airport, get through security where I found out why people are getting so upset about the pat-downs (this was my first full-on pat down and seriously TSA got further than several ex-boyfriends ever did). We get to our gate only to find out the flight is delayed by an hour...oh, wait, two hours...oh, and the shuttle we are supposed to catch once we land in Phoenix..yeah, well, we are going to miss it. After almost a 3 hour delay, and about 30 phone calls to my parents (who we were meeting in Sedona), the shuttle company, Southwest (to see if there were any other flights, etc. we finally boarded the plane.
Once we hit cruising altitude, I quickly rip out my iPad2 so my son could watch all the great Disney videos I had downloaded for him...oh, wait, when my iPad reset, it erased all those videos. Next thought, pay for the wifi and let my little guy watch streaming videos from Netflix. Well...that is a genius plan but the Southwest wifi is not strong enough to stream videos (learn from my misfortune). Amazingly, we got through the flight, caught a shuttle that left about an hour after we finally landed, and then made it through a two hour shuttle ride to Sedona. And, in perfect Murphy's Law fashion, even though the little man had not taken a nap all day, he did manage to fall asleep about 10 minutes before we got to the villa.
After that marathon travel day, everything was smooth sailing. We had a fabulous week in Sedona with my parents and it was so much fun to watch my son learning to play golf, having quality one-on-one time to explore, play, learn and more. This was the first vacation that I did not try to schedule an activity to occupy every second we were awake and it worked out just fine. For those type-A parents out there...I have to say, while this was totally out of my comfort zone, I highly recommend it!
We just got back home just before midnight on Wednesday and I have been playing a serious game of catch-up! As you may have noticed, the holiday guide is not up and running as I had hoped...BUT, it will be soon! We are off to ICE! at the Gaylord National this weekend so I can tell you all about it...so please bear with me and check back often as I add more and more items to the guide, and post more clues about the contents of our new Woot Bag giveaway.
In addition to the event listings, remember there are LOTS more events listed in the updated weekly events article including open gyms, story times at the local libraries, craft workshops and more. We also have a Kids Eat Free or Cheap section, a Now Showing section with current productions at local theaters, a Macaroni Kid Saves section and a section about how to work with us. As always, if you know of other events, please e-mail me at [email protected] and I will try to fit them in as space permits.
I also want to congratulate all our Muppets Advanced Screening winners (you had to be a Facebook fan to know about this one) and remind you all to show up early to ensure you get in.Have a great one and until next week...Peace, Love, & Macaroni!
P.S. Be sure to "like" our facebook page to be the first to find out about special last minute giveaways and events in Rockville & Gaithersburg as well. Also, come back and check the website at least once a week as I add more events, and sometimes even more giveaways throughout the week.
