Good gosh it is hot and humid out there!!! Lucky for us, we have some super fun things to do both inside and outside depending on the weather! Some of my favorites on super hot (or cold), or rainy days are heading to Lakeforest Mall or Montgomery Mall to play in the kids play areas, or visiting the Backyard Inflatables stores to let my son bounce some energy out! If you have more time to spend out, my son loves heading out to the Playseum in Bethesda.
I know it ...
And Your Kids can WIN Tickets!!
In today’s world, the most precious commodity is time and this is what we are wasting more than ever. Parents are too busy working while kids are too busy focused on their own things. In this empowering spy adventure, a family reunites together with adventure, humor and entertainment to win back time and understand the true meaning and value of time.
If your kids would like to see Spy Kids, we ...
A Summer Treat Without the Heat!
Summer, time for camping and everyone's favorite campfire treat--smores! However, if you are like me, sitting outside in the summer heat next to a camp fire sounds, well, pretty crazy and stinking hot! Here's what you need:
- Wide-mouthed Mason or glass jars
- Pipe cleaners
- 3C boiling water for each jar
- 1/2c Borax for each jar
- food coloring (optional)
Borax is found in the laundry asile, it's a laundry booster and an ingredient we use in our Homemade Laundry Detergent. It's around $3 for a big box of it.
We found the glass jars we used at the thrift store and the pipe cleaners at the Dollar Tree.
Studies show that kids who read throughout the summer maintain their literacy skills at a higher level than those who do not. Having your child participate in a summer reading program will help them maintain these skills during the summer months as they are encouraged to read purely for the enjoyment of it.
Summer Reading Tips
Here are some tips on making summer reading a positive experience:
- Help your child set a realistic book goal.
- Create a regular time for reading for all members of the family.
- Show genuine interest ...
With summer in full force, many parents are excited to get – and keep – their kids outside and active. However, having kids spend hours on end in the heat can lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include paleness, muscle cramps, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, and fainting. The pulse rate will be fast and weak, and breathing will be fast and shallow. The skin can be cool and moist; sweating may or may not occur. If untreated, heat exhaustion may ...
